| The European Union has implemented strict safety standards for all toys sold in the EU. The standard EN 71 has been published in 11 parts:
- Part 1: mechanical and physical properties.
This standard contains requirements for the design, strength, performance and labelling of toys.
- Part 2: flammability
This standard contains requirements and test methods to assess the flaming characteristics of toys
- Part 3: migration of certain elements
This standard contains requirements which limit the amount of toxic metals in the materials used to make toys.
- The other standards contain requirements for the safety of electric toys, hygiene etc.
